The Hilir Perak District Education Office emerged top at the recent poetry competition among government agencies in Perak, beating Teachers Training Institute Ipoh Campus in the final round. The champion received a cash prize of RM1000 and a certificate while the runner-up received RM700.
Hisham Abd Aziz, Deputy Director of the Department for Culture and Arts, Perak (JKKN), said that the competition was organised to preserve the nation’s culture and arts and to foster good relationship between staff and officials of government departments in the state. “Such events also inculcate the love for arts and literature in the younger generation. In view of the overwhelming response received, this will be made an annual event,” he said.
Rozita Omar, from the Teachers Training Institute Ipoh Campus, was declared Best Poet at the competition which was held at the auditorium of the Department of Culture and Arts Perak here in Ipoh. The closing ceremony was officiated by state assemblyman for Manong, Mohamad Kamil Shafie.
