Efforts to Promote Cycling

Tourism Perak and the Malaysia Interaction Culture Association (MICA) held a press conference at the State Secretariat Building, Ipoh, recently. The aim was to introduce cycling packages for tourists and activities to be held by both Tourism Perak and MICA.

According to the Executive Councillor for Tourism and Culture, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohd Radzi, Perak is promoting cycling packages for tourists. Among them are the Discover Perak Cycling and the 3D/2N Cycling to Lenggong Valley packages.

“We hope to put Perak on the world map as a destination for bicycle tourism. The heritage trails in Perak are likeable sites for such activities. We want both local and foreign cycling enthusiasts to appreciate the beauty of Perak. In doing so, we’ll work closely with MICA to organise cycling activities,” she told reporters.

Incidentally, some members of MICA took part in the Malaysia-Japan Interaction Culture Ride in Japan in July. They shared their experiences with the media. “We had an exciting experience in Japan. Not only did we succeed in promoting Perak as a cycling destination by introducing the cycling packages, we also brought back fresh ideas for consideration by Tourism Perak ,” said Camees Fong, the Secretary of MICA.

“We’re proud to be given the opportunity to promote bicycle tourism on behalf of Perak Tourism. We hope to organise more cycling activities with the support of the state government in the near future,” exclaimed Dr Kedios Ooh, the Navigator of MICA.

After its Japanese stint, MICA will organise the 123 Ride 2014 in conjunction with Malaysia Day. The title is derived from the combination of 1Malaysia, 2 major cities and 3 rides.

The first is the Taiping Heritage Fun Ride 2014 on September 13. Next, the Ipoh City International Fun Ride 2014 on September 14. And finally, the Merdeka Night Ride 2013 on September 15.
