Junior Blast Water Polo Tournament
In conjunction with the National Sports month, a Junior Blast Water Polo Tournament was held from October 26 to 27 at the Tuanku Zara Aquatic Centre. The tournament was organised by the KuRenang Swimming Academy (KRSA).
The tournament was divided into three categories, under 13, under 15 and the master category which was participated by those above 30 years of age.
According to the organising chairman, Clara Chung there were more than 20 teams from within and outside the country. Initially, there were only six teams that partook in the under 13 and under 15 category. However, the tournament managed to grab the attention from countries such as Singapore and Thailand.
“As for the Master category, there were four teams namely Ipoh KRSA, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Singapore and Kuala Lumpur,” she said.
She then added that KRSA believes that by organising such tournaments, it creates a platform for the younger generation to build their talent in this sport.
“The sole purpose of organising such tournaments is to explore and discover more young talents as this sport is given the least attention in Malaysia.
“The organisers hope that in the near future, Malaysia would have the opportunity to compete with countries from South East Asia in water- polo,” she added.
Clara and the KRSA committee thanked all sponsors for their continuous support in making this tournament a success. She also extended her gratitude to the National Sports Council (MSN) and Perak Water-polo Club (PWC) for providing technical support throughout the competition and Auspole for being the main sponsor.
“Junior Blast Water Polo would be a yearly tournament,” Clara emphasised.
KRSA is a new organisation that was introduced six months ago. The coach and trainers of this organisation are ex-water-polo players from Malaysia and Singapore. For further information about the organisation, they may be found on Facebook at KuRenang Swimming Academy.
