Kids Can Learn to Play Golf at Meru Valley Resort

Youngsters can now sign up to learn golf at Meru Valley Resort, Ipoh as its Junior Golf Academy reopened its doors for enrolment, with health and safety measures firmly in place.

The Junior Golf Academy focuses on empowering young people and building leadership skills, from confidence to resilience, through the great game of golf.

The youth programme is designed for those of 7 to 16 years old, regardless of their ability. From novice to advanced learners, they are coached to play or compete but most importantly to have fun and grow their confidence in a safe and controlled environment.

Academy student Chanelle Woo, 15 said: “I knew very little about golf when I came. This is my tenth lesson with the academy, and I can proudly say that I can now hit golf balls without tee and I have learnt chipping and putting. I hope to improve my longer golf shots in the upcoming lessons.”

Fuji Wong, 15, who is part of the Elite programme said: “The coach teaches us in an effective way, where it is easy to understand. He is friendly and approachable, therefore it’s easy to learn from him. He personally coaches me on fine-tuning my swing.”

The academy is coached by Sundaresan Raman, also known as Sunny, Australian Golf Teachers Federation (AGTF) and World Golf Teachers Federation (WGTF) certified instructor, who explained: “Now is a great time to be outdoors playing golf. The academy offers a cross-curriculum programme, with a strong focus on the mental game, as well as the physical and social-emotional skills built through golf fundamentals. Students learn more than a game; we emphasise emotional resilience and build confidence through a holistic programme to get children learning and growing in a fun and safe environment.”

New safety measures implemented include a limit of five students for each lesson, compulsory temperature checks, health declarations, wearing of face masks, frequent hand sanitising before and after lessons, sanitising equipment before and after use and no sharing of clubs.
