How To Make A Short Film by Hassan Muthalib

By Jin Hann Chai

Following the Perak Society of Performing Arts’ (PSPA) announcement on the inaugural short film competition earlier, we are proud to launch two versions of the “Tips on Making A Short Film For First Time Filmmakers” video for all potential participants so that they have an idea on how to start their project. The sessions were conducted by the venerable Hassan Muthalib, Tokoh Animasi Negara, and renowned film historian and prolific film writer. Despite the pandemic and travel restrictions, he made no excuses when we requested his assistance to make the video for aspiring filmmakers and get right down to recording the session with us. All of us in PSPA are indeed indebted to his generosity.

As we mentioned earlier, the video comes in two different versions – one is short and concise and the other is more comprehensive. Pak Hassan insisted on doing two different takes so both the videos are not from the same source.

We hope the videos can help those who are keen to take part in the competition. We are already receiving inquiries and so we hope the videos can help to answer some of your questions especially regarding filmmaking.

Please feel free to write to us via FB messenger, email at pspaipoh@gmail.com or call the PSPA office at +605 545 0350 should you need any further clarification and explanation with regards to the short film competition. Please visit HERE for further details.
