Local Hockey and Cricket Teams as Exemplary Athletes

Sports associations in Perak are encouraged to follow the footsteps of the Perak Hockey Association and Perak Cricket Association, in preparation for the SUKMA (Sukan Malaysia) Games which is to be held in Johor early next year.

In his speech, Perak Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu congratulated the local hockey team which emerged as champion of the recent TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup (Men’s) Tournament held by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation, scoring 4-2 against Terengganu during the finals.

He also congratulated the cricket team for winning the Senior T20 & T50 Interstate Championship 2020 by the Malaysian Cricket Association.

“Team sports isn’t an easy feat, when team members rely on each other to win a game,” he said today (October 22) at an incentive presentation ceremony to the hockey and cricket sports teams in Galasa Caldwell (located behind Perak Department for Culture and Arts).

Also present were Faizal’s wife, Datin Seri Dr Nomee Ashikin and State Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia, Khairul Shahril Mohamed, among many others.

The hockey team and cricket team were respectively rewarded with RM35,000 and RM31,000 as an incentive. Both teams also received appreciation trophies.

“Not only that; I’m beyond impressed with how team members were able to build an understanding with each other in such a short time, given the fact that every one of us underwent the Movement Control Order (MCO) enforcement,” he added.

Faizal also commended local athletes for staying in top condition despite the MCO.

“It definitely comes as a challenge to keep our physique in shape, let alone during times like this where we are all required to stay at home,” he expressed.

“Because of that, athletes were deprived of training sessions, but their discipline in performing training exercises at home, which were uploaded to various video-sharing social media platforms, is worth being exemplified by all of us,” Faizal enthused.
