RM3,000 Each for GeRUP Micro-Entrepreneurs

Some 300 local small and medium enterprises (SME) will be receiving a RM3,000 one-off payment thanks to the Perak Entrepreneur Grant (GeRUP).

According to the State Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperative and Consumer Affairs, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, the grant, which was previously announced back in July 16, is to aid entrepreneurs who were affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) resulting from the outbreak of COVID-19.

“The state government, along with SME Corp Malaysia, has allocated RM1 million for the grant which is in line with the second phase of the economic stimulus package for Perak,” he told reporters during a media session here at the state secretariat building today (October 28).

“Since the grant was announced, we’ve received a total of 4,653 applications. Out of 1,115 who fulfilled criteria of the grant, 300 will be receiving the payment,” Saarani added. “The remaining allocation will be used for courses to be provided to these 300 micro-entrepreneurs.

“We will be monitoring these enterprises to ensure that the payment is fully and properly utilised,” he expressed. “Hopefully, our application for another budget to assist the remaining 815 applicants will be approved by the state government in the near future.”

Applicants who would like to check their status can do so at https://gerup.smecorp.gov.my/ beginning October 30.
