2km Search Radius to Locate Drifted Child

UPDATE: The child has been found dead as of November 26.

A 2km search and rescue operation was undertaken by the State Fire and Rescue Department to locate a boy who was feared to have drifted away with water current along a river near Kampung Chepor Dalam at Meru Raya yesterday (November 24).

According to the department’s assistant director of operations division, Mohamad Yunus Abu, the search area covers the location of the accident up to a nearby flood mitigation dam.

“Recent continuous downpours at the area contributed to strong water currents in the river, which made it more challenging for the rescue squad,” he told reporters at the location of the incident today.

“We’ve also mobilised a search team at the dam’s vicinity and other areas nearby the river,” Mohamad Yunus added.

Meanwhile, Ipoh District police chief, Assistant Commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz verified the child’s identity as Muhammad Deniss Ramadhan Amar Fizry.

“The involved victim was believed to be helping his friend in retrieving a slipper that fell into the river, before tripping and falling into the river himself,” he mentioned.

Muhammad Deniss, second child of Amar Fizry Razali and Maizatul Nadia Zulkifli, is a Year 4 primary student at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Klebang.
