Emergency Declared in Gerik; By-Elections Postponed

Gerik by-elections will have to wait as the state constituency located in Hulu Perak District was declared a state of emergency, along with Bugaya in Sabah.

This was announced by Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin via a media statement earlier today (December 16).

“The decision followed advice by His Excellency Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“After considering the effects of the previous Sabah state elections, we’ve decided to postpone the by-elections in both constituencies to another date which will be announced later,” he said.

By-elections in both Gerik and Bugaya were slated to be held on January 16, 2021, following the untimely death of incumbent parliamentary members for both constituencies.
