COVID-19: Panic Buying at Supermarkets

Most supermarkets in Ipoh are swarming with members of the public who are there to purchase food supplies in preparation for the imminent Movement Control Order (MCO) starting tomorrow (January 22) until February 4.

During Ipoh Echo’s visit to one of the well-known supermarkets in town, crowds of Ipohites were seen from noon to night.

Ahmad Zariari Harun, 46, had to spend more time buying a multitude of consumables since he will not be allowed to travel to the town area as his residence is located more than 10km away.

“Today’s the opportunity for me to purchase kitchen items at Ipoh’s supermarket. Product prices are usually higher in regular stores, compared to supermarkets which offer much more variety of products with price cuts especially during the MCO period.

“I have been here since 3pm. Products like cooking oil and dried goods have begun to sell out,” he stated.
