Perak Youth Assembly to Tap Into Ideas of the Younger Generation 

The state government is targeting 600 registered youth candidates to represent each constituency for the 2021/2022 session.

According to the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, the state government welcomes Perakean youths to participate in the Perak Youth Assembly sitting which is slated to happen during the second term of 2021.

“The Perak Youth Assembly has become an important platform for youngsters to bring up ideas in building and prospering the state while including citizens’ interest, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Being the third of its kind, the sitting will be held online, should physical sittings remain prohibited due to the pandemic,” he stated via an online media session in his office at the state secretariat building today (February 17).

Also present were the Perak State Assembly speaker, Dato’ Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid and the Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia, Khairul Shahril Mohamed.

Registration of representatives’ nomination has officially opened today, lasting until March 7. Registration of voters has also opened today, lasting until March 20.

The process of nomination and voting for the Youth Assembly representatives will be utilising a fully online platform at their official website.  

Besides that, Saarani announced the appointment of Trong state assembly member (ADUN), Jamilah Zakaria as the Youth Assembly Speaker.

President of the Perak Youth Council, Aswanuddin Hariffudin and President of the Perak Youth Assembly Alumni Council, Muhammad Ariff Zaky Mohd Zolkafly were respectively appointed as Deputy Speaker 1 and Deputy Speaker 2.

Saarani mentioned that the election of representatives will focus on eight groups, which are higher education youths, career youths, youth clubs, mass youths, international Malaysian youths, minority youths and youths at risk.

“There will be a total of 59 elected youth representatives to ensure that each constituency has one,” he added.
