First Recipient in the Country – PM Receives His First Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin received his first dose of the Comirnaty vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech during the launch of the national-level COVID-19 Immunisation Programme which took place today (February 24).

The momentous moment which unveiled at the Putrajaya Health Office in Precinct 11 was broadcasted live on the Prime Minister’s official Facebook page.

In accordance with the regular protocol, Muhyiddin firstly underwent screening at the triage counter which comprised checking in using the MySejahtera app and body temperature check. Next, he proceeded to the registration counter to register using QR code scan and identity card. Subsequently, he went into the auditorium to attend a briefing session for vaccine receivers. Having completed the consent form for vaccination, the Prime Minister went into the vaccination room to receive his first dose, making him the first-ever individual to receive the vaccine in this country. He scanned another QR code for the vaccine series number right after.

After being injected, he was placed under observation by health officers in another room for 15 to 30 minutes for occurrence of any side effects. Lastly, he was given the appointment for the second dose.

“I am confident that this vaccine is safe and efficient. I appeal to all Malaysians and those living in Malaysia to collectively come forward and register for the free-of-charge vaccination,” Muhyiddin stated after his observation session ended.

Regarding his current condition after the shot, he shared, “For me, it was painless and completed quickly, just like receiving another regular injection. Look at Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (Health Director-General) standing next to me, he too is fine after receiving the jab. Thus, don’t worry!” 

In line with the new normal, mask-wearing and physical distancing were practised by all.
Present were Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation cum Coordinating Minister for COVID-19 Immunisation, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, Health Minister and Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Health Director-General.

The national-level COVID-19 Immunisation Programme runs on the slogan, “Protect Yourself, Protect All” and is divided into three phases.

The first phase involves 500,000 frontliners while the second phase comprises high risk groups like the elderly, vulnerable and differently abled. Meanwhile, the third phase involves adults of age 18 and above.
