ZTNS: RM1.8 Million Allocation to Build and Upgrade Exhibition Cages

Around RM1.8 million out of RM2.282 million in total fund allocations channeled to Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) via the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources will be utilised to upgrade the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari (ZTNS).

According to the president of MPT, Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir, the allocation also covers RM468,890.37 under the Prihatin Wildlife Welfare Fund.

He said, the funds will be utilised in the building of new exhibition cages for hornbills and reptiles, besides upgrading night exhibition cages for tigers, bears and lions.

“A few companies and agencies also contributed aid in the form of food supply for the animals in the zoo during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and the ongoing Conditional MCO (CMCO), some of which are the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Service Department (MAQIS), Ayam Dinding, and Lotus (previously known as Tesco).”

He said so while in attendance of the Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary) celebration of ZTNS recently.

Also present were the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi and Deputy Director-General of the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan), Dato’ Fakhrul Hatta Musa.

In the ceremony, ZTNS also presented appreciation to three contributors of the zoo’s Anak Angkat (adoption) scheme, which supports orang utan and Malayan tigers with sponsorship totalling RM52,000.
