Calling animals lovers! One may participate in the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari Anak Angkat (adoption) Programme (PAAZTNS) via sponsorship of animals or even amenities in the zoo.
According to the president of Taiping Municipal Council (MPT), Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir, all sponsorship costs will be fully utilised to finance food, medical expenses, enrichment programmes, maintenance or construction of exhibition cages, provision of amenities for visitors and conservation programmes.
“The sponsorship programme which was introduced in 1994 is an indirect opportunity for the public to aid and support wildlife conservation efforts.
“Since the year end of 2020 till date, the council has received a few allocations and assistance, some of which include an allocation of RM150,000 from the state government of Perak to install a giant fan and to upgrade public toilets in the zoo premises.
“The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources channeled a RM2.282 million allocation which covers the Prihatin Wildlife Welfare Fund of RM468,890.37 for wildlife food supply, medical and disinfection expenses, along with RM1.813 million to upgrade the zoo exhibits,” he said via a statement dated today (March 11).
A few companies and agencies also contributed aid in the form of food supply for the animals in the zoo during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and the ongoing Conditional MCO (CMCO), some of which are the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Service Department (MAQIS), Ayam Dinding, and Lotus’s Stores (previously known as Tesco).
Recently, MPT presented appreciation to all contributors including Comfort Rubber Gloves Industries Sdn Bhd which sponsored two orangutan worth RM20,000; Teleflex Medical Sdn Bhd which sponsored a Malayan tiger worth RM20,000; Rocket Media Enterprise which sponsored another Malayan tiger worth RM12,000; and Quest International University which contributed RM1,500.
