The Beauty of the World of Ceramics

Fans of ceramic handicrafts can now for the first time experience the ‘Indahnya Dunia Seramik’ (The Beauty of the World of Ceramics) exhibition currently ongoing at the Rumah Tradisional Labu Sayong in Bandar Meru Raya.

Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Perak, Nurmalis Musa explained that the ceramics exhibition is held physically to enable fans of ceramics to view contemporary and creative ceramic art.

“Via the display, the organiser highlights new works of art from graduates and students of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in an effort to commercialise the products to a global level.

“Besides students’ involvement, the exhibition also sees the participation of Persatuan Pengusaha Seramik Negeri Perak (PERSERA), lecturers of UiTM and solo ceramic artists. 

“Handicraft exhibitions like this should be continued to introduce handmade arts, a heritage and source of pride for everyone, to the people,” Nurmalis said after launching the closing ceremony of the exhibition today (March 27).

The exhibition is held from March 15 till 31. A total of 38 ceramic products are on display and available for sale. The average price offered is between RM150 to RM3,000.

The Chairperson of PERSERA, Noormah Ismail, added that PERSERA had presented two awards to artists of ceramic arts who had contributed greatly in terms of knowledge and valuable creations.

The Anugerah Ilmuan Seramik PERSERA 2021 was awarded to Dr Salwa Ayob, Senior Lecturer of the Ceramics Department of Faculty of Art & Design in UiTM Perak Branch and Committee Member of Fine Arts Specialists of Department of National Heritage among others.

Meanwhile, the Anugerah Karyawan PERSERA 2021 was awarded to Zulkafly Pandak Bedin, Adiguru (great teacher) of Kraf Tembikar Sayong at Kampung Kepala Bendang, Sayong, Kuala Kangsar.
