Boiler Fire Explosion, A Victim’s Face Scalded

A fire broke out at a limestone plant located at Batu 3 Temoh in Tapah earlier today (May 17), causing a boiler to explode and injure three victims.

A spokesperson for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said that an emergency call regarding the situation was received at around 10.56am.

“A squad and a vehicle from the Tapah Fire and Police Station were immediately rushed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was understood that the plant’s emergency response team (ERT) of eight had preliminarily dealt with the fire which consumed 40 percent of the boiler. The explosion subsequently blew the boiler cover open.

“The ERT used an extinguisher and two hose reels to extinguish the fire before the squad’s arrival.

“During the aftermath, two men, one aged 41 and the other 44, sustained minor injuries. Another victim aged 30 had his face scalded. They were immediately rushed to the hospital.

“The fire squad remained at the site of the incident to monitor and ensure that the fire was fully extinguished,” he explained, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. 

The operation which ended at around 11.50am was led by Senior Fire Officer II Abdul Rahman Ibrahim. It was supervised by Senior Fire Superintendent II Khairil Adli Zakaria along with Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Nadzri Che Nordin.
