COVID-19 Self-Test Kit to Be Made a Controlled Item

The COVID-19 antigen self-test kits are to be made a controlled item as it is said that the current price at RM39.90 puts it out of reach for most people.

According to the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Dato’ Rosol Wahid, this action is to ensure the affordability of the item. With a reasonable price, more consumers can afford to buy the test kit.

Rosol added that his party is discussing with manufacturers, importers and merchants of the self-testing kits.

“We received information that the test kit is sold at a price of RM39.90, which I think will burden the public. Hence, we are considering getting it to a reasonable price that will not harm the traders or burden the people.

We are in the process of making it a controlled item,” he said.

He also highlighted that besides making sure that the price is reasonable, KPDNHEP ensures the test kits are legitimate as it is possible that some sellers are producing fake goods in the market.

The self-test kits can be purchased via the MySejahtera app or community pharmacies as well as health facilities.
