Men Arrested for Possessing Imitation Gun

Three men aged between 20 to 22 were arrested for possession of an imitation gun yesterday (August 6), following a viral video circulating in WhatsApp on the same day.

According to the state police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, the video was tracked at around 1.30pm, which depicted one of the men holding what seemed to be a gun in front of a house with the other two.

“Concerned about public safety, the police, along with the Crime Investigation Department of the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK), had captured two of the men who were seen riding on a motorcycle at Jalan Kampung Paloh around 2.30pm.

“The imitation gun, which resembles a semi-auto gun, was also seized during the arrest.

“The other man was also captured at around 7pm on the same day.

“All three admitted to purchasing the imitation gun and gathering in front of the house while consuming alcoholic beverages on August 5.

“The imitation gun which belonged to someone else was exhibited by one of the three, as recorded in the video, before it went viral,” Mior explained in a statement dated today (August 7).

He added, all suspects are being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of an imitation weapon without a valid license.

“If convicted, they’ll be subject to punishment which carries imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both,” Mior mentioned.
