Fully Vaccinated Husbands Can Accompany Wives in Labour Room

Husbands who wish to accompany their wives in the maternity ward are now allowed to do so.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the Ministry of Health (MOH) only gives permission to husbands who have completed two doses of COVID-19 vaccine to be in the maternity ward.

“We have asked the Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah to issue the permission in all government hospitals.

“However, the husbands must undergo a COVID-19 screening and test negative before being allowed to do so.

“I have asked Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham to allow husbands who are fully vaccinated and tested negative in COVID screening tests to accompany their wives in the labour room,” he said via Twitter today (September 28).

He was replying to a tweet from a Twitter user who requested for the matter to be addressed.

Responding to the same request, Dr Noor Hisham also informed that he would issue instructions for the implementation.

“Yes, I will implement what is needed,” he assured.

Previously, government hospitals have not allowed husbands to accompany their wives in the labour room since the Movement Control Order (MCO) started in March last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
