PORT Features Artworks of Local Young Talents

The Arts Residency Programme by PORT (People of Remarkable Talents), in partnership with the National Art Gallery and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, has launched a visual art exhibition entitled ‘Semesta’ recently.

PORT General Manager, Nur Hanim Dato’ Mohamed Khairuddin said this exhibition aims to provide an art platform for young artists in the country.

“The objective of this residency programme is to provide a platform for young artists to explore their creative potential,” she explained.

She said these young artists will be given appropriate guidance under a mentor-mentee concept for three months to ensure the participants are on the correct path.

Nur Hanim added that the first session of the programme will be conducted under the supervision of the country’s famous artist, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, who was also appointed as the guest advisor.

‘Semesta’ carries the meaning of space and time which encompasses layers of the meaning of life.

Meanwhile, programme participant Izzat Aziz said his idea was to explore the potential of discarded plastic materials to be used as a new narrative.

“It has provided an inspiration to produce artwork using all the plastic materials found,” he said.

Meanwhile, for Khalil Muhsain, he explored the relationship between clay and rock surfaces in the famous recreational park in Ipoh, Gunung Lang.

The work entitled ‘Tiang Tanah Air’ combines clay, iron and water that seem to mimic the natural process of rock formation that he saw around Ipoh.

On September 25, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Dr. Santhara J.P. paid a visit to the exhibition in conjunction with a work visit with the MOTAC delegation to Perak.

Also present was Perak MOTAC Director, Asrul Zakaria.

This art residency exhibition began on September 25 and will continue until October 15.

The exhibition visiting hours are from 10.30am to 6.30pm at Black House, PORT and those who wish to visit the exhibition site can call Nadhirah at 012-428 0184 to book a visit appointment slot.
