The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Perak carried out a walkabout at Pasar Besar, Ipoh to monitor the implementation of the Malaysian Family Maximum Price Scheme (SHMKM).
SHMKM was previously extended until 4 February 2022 based on consumers’ feedback, as a continuous step to stabilise the price of items as well as ensure the availability of supply.
State KPDNHEP Director, Saifullizan Kamarul Zaman said the ministry decided to extend the duration of implementation of SHMKM, which was effective on 1 January 2022, for 35 days.
“The number of items with controlled prices for the scheme implementation is the same, involving 12 types of necessities in the chicken, chicken egg and vegetable categories,” he stated.
The are four types of items involved in the price adjustment in SHMKM, namely chicken, chicken egg, sawi (choy sum) and long bean for selected locations.
The price adjustment is made based on the situation and certain factors to ensure stability of price and supply.
Meanwhile, he informed that throughout 2021, a total of 80,987 premises checks were carried out statewide by KPDNHEP enforcers with seizure value estimated at RM766,144.16.
Meanwhile, the total value of fine and compound was at RM548,224.00 and RM532,170.00 respectively.
He mentioned that there were a total of 74 cases under Act 342 involving an accumulated compound value of RM220,500.00.
“Throughout 202, a total of 193 cases of claims were also filed at the Tribunal for Consumer Claims (TTPM) Perak Branch and from that total, 90 cases involved items and 103 cases involved services.
“On today as well, KPDNHEP Perak has opened a consumer weighing counter (Kaunter Timbang Pengguna) for members of the public who wish to make comparisons of weights or make complaints and inquiries directly to the officer on duty at the counter,” he added.
