‘COVID-19: Cases Will Hit 15,000’—KJ

The nation is entering a new wave of COVID-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant, with new daily cases hitting over 10,000.

Thus, the daily cases are predicted to continue to rise until 15,000 if no necessary steps are taken, especially regarding receiving the booster dose.

Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said the nation is currently facing the Omicron wave, and this causes concerns.

According to him, about 1 million senior citizens have yet to obtain their booster dose, posing a risk of getting serious complications if they are infected with COVID-19.

“I urge members of the public to immediately inform the elderly in respective families to obtain the booster dose.

“It is to protect them from the severe effects of the Omicron variant.

“We are now fully into the Omicron wave. The daily cases will hit 15,000 soon,” he said during a special media conference yesterday.

Khairy Jamaluddin stated that all health clinics are now ready to receive the arrival of high numbers of COVID-19 patients.

He added that there are currently 370 COVID-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) at the community and health clinics which are operating to assess COVID-19 patients.

He said that the function of CAC is to identify patients who fulfil the criteria for home monitoring and assess their development throughout the isolation period.
