Two Hikers Missing

The rescue team is carrying out an operation to search for two female hikers who are reported missing while participating in a hiking activity at Gunung Suku, Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands today.

Both hikers, aged 30 and 45 respectively, are believed to have been swept away by a water column (kepala air).

The spokesperson for the State Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) stated that both hikers were with 27 others for a hiking activity at the hill.

According to the spokesperson, all 27 other hikers had successfully reached the foot of the hill in safe condition.

“The rescue team has moved to the location where the victims are believed to have gone missing.

“The search is now focused on an area of 5 kilometres following the water route to detect victims.

Earlier, the incident was reported to the authorities before the fire and rescue personnel were dispatched.

The search operation involves over 40 personnel led by the Fire and Rescue Department aided by mountain guides, State Forestry Department, Civil Defence Department and the communication unit of the Radio Communication & Recreation Club (RCRC) of Cameron Highlands.
