Perak KPDNHEP Thwarts Subsidised Diesel Embezzlement Activities

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) of Perak successfully thwarted subsidised diesel embezzlement activities following an inspection at a petrol station in Pantai Remis near Manjung yesterday.

The Director of Perak KPDNHEP, Saifullizan Kamarul Zaman stated that the inspection was carried out by a team of enforcers from the Manjung KPDNHEP.

According to him, the inspection at 12 noon was made based on complaints and intelligence related to repetitive purchase of subsidised diesel using a tank truck.

“A tank truck was found visiting the petrol station repeatedly to purchase diesel and refuel in the period of one to two hours at the same station.

“Inspection found a male in his 20s had loaded the fuel three times at the station. The 53-year-old owner of the station was also detained to assist the investigation,” he said in a statement.

The embezzlement activities were suspected to have begun 5 months ago due to the price of commercial diesel which is currently reaching almost RM5 a litre.

“23,200 litres of diesel, a tank truck, three units of skid tanks, two units of nozzles and pumps were seized with an overall value of seizure estimated at RM202,000.

The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961. If convicted, an individual can face a fine of not more than RM1 million or imprisonment up to three years or both. Meanwhile, the company (if convicted) can face a fine of not more than RM2 million.
