A job carnival offering up to 11,000 job opportunities will be held starting today in Kampung Baharu, Jerlun, Perak.
Running for the first time, the programme opens the windows of jobs for Perakians, especially in the professional and general job market.
Executive Councilor for Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport, Dato’ Mohd Zolkafly Harun said the carnival was hosted by Zurich Infrastructure Sdn. Bhd., a local company managing a new infrastructure project in the state.
He added that Kampung Baharu Jerlun was chosen as the main location for the carnival, in line with one of the new highway routes proposed to be built in Perak.
“Jerlun is on one of the proposals to build a rest and service area (R&R), or interchange to the West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE) from Gopeng to Kuala Kangsar, which was started here.
“Zurich Infrastructure Sdn Bhd. is the main contractor for the WISE highway,” he said at a press conference after officiating the Jerlun, Perak Job Carnival 2022 programme on Saturday.
Also present was the Managing Director of Zurich Infrastructure Sdn. Bhd. Ahmad Sahill Zainal Abidin.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Sahill said his party intended to ensure that all construction work for the new project would be done on a full scale by the local government.
“Right now the project proposal (WISE) is still in the midst of discussion. Hence, the commencement date of the project is still unknown.
“The job offers we provide are holistic, involving a general and professional workforce.
“The response was very good, there was a walk-in as early as 6.30am,” he said.
The carnival will be ongoing for four days, starting today until June 21.
Walk-in interview sessions start at 7am to 4pm.
Surveys at the carnival found that many came from inside and outside Perak, in addition to the encouraging response.
Rozaliana Ramli, 46, from Ipoh said she came to the carnival with friends who also wanted to find better job opportunities.
“I got to know about this carnival because a message was forwarded on Whatsapp a month ago.
“Now I work as a personal assistant in a company in Ipoh. Today’s celebration is really lively, moreover, carnivals like this make it easier for people,” she said.
Another job seeker, V. Shativel, 36, who works as a civil engineer in Kuala Lumpur said he chose to attend the carnival as he wanted to find a job in Perak.
He said he has been living in Kuala Lumpur for 13 years, while his wife, children and parents are in Ipoh.
“I came here with my father, hoping to get a new job opportunity as an engineer here,” he said.
The carnival also saw the presence of big brands such as Sime Darby Industrial Sdn. Bhd., and international construction company Freyssinet.
