Ipoh Becomes First City in Northern Region to Have 5G Access

Ipoh has become the first city in the northern region to have 5G access with a speed of up to 1GB per second, following the efforts of the 5G Greater Ipoh team.

Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia, Khairul Shahril Mohamed said that this achievement was due to the efforts of the team led by Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud.

Besides that, the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) of Perak and Telekom Malaysia (TM) also played a role.

“A total of 98 sites of 5G network will be available in the greater Ipoh region covering the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council, Kampar District Council and Batu Gajah District Council by end of October. It is expected to cover the whole of Perak.

He said so to reporters during a press conference after officiating the Ipoh Integrated Operation Centre (IIOC) & 5G at the Perak Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) yesterday.

Present were Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin and TM One’s Vice President of Sales, Mohamed Faisal Naina Mohamed.

He added that since March last year, the MBI and TM have cooperated to implement one of the projects included in the Ipoh Smart City Blueprint, which is the Ipoh Integrated Operation Centre.

“This command centre project is the pulse of the Ipoh Smart City Action Plan, which will be a smart control centre that has the ability to process Big Data using Artificial Intelligence (AI) software and Internet of Things (IoT).

“It will enable a smooth city governance with the application of high technology, sensors and devices.

He highlighted that a high-tech control centre without good internet access will be a disadvantage, however, MBI and TM via Digital Nasional Berhad have worked together to resolve it beforehand.
