Park@Perak Application Reaches Over Half A Million Users

Over half a million or 530,000 people have downloaded the Park@Perak smart parking application to date.

The mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said, the application which was first introduced in January 2019 is expected to reach over 700,000 users in 2024.

According to Rumaizi, users from the city of Ipoh constitute the highest number who are using the application, with a total of 400,000 people.

“75 percent of the half a million are users from Ipoh with 400,000 people.

“Coupons will no longer be issued from June 1 and there will be no sales to agents from that date as announced by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) since the end of last year,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He said the implementation of digital parking payment is in line with MBI’s direction, to make Ipoh a Smart City by 2030 and that it coincides with the Federal government’s recommendation that government agencies provide services with a digital concept.

“This application or technology that does not use cash or coupons is not new, in fact it has been practised for a long time in other countries including in other cities in Malaysia. Following current developments, this digital payment for parking will sooner or later be used comprehensively.

Previously the media reported that Ipoh residents were encouraged to download the Park@Perak application in preparation for the full digitization of parking payment charges from 2024.

Rumaizi is reported to have said that MBI is in a full digitization phase in terms of operations and payment of parking charges.

One of the advantages of using this application is that it allows parking payments to be done through a smartphone, which is easy, time-saving and can be used throughout Perak.

The operating hours and parking charge rates are according to the respective local authorities.
