New home needed for orphans

By Rosli Mansor

“Before this new year, I must get a new rental house for the orphans because I can no longer afford the high monthly rent,” said the chairman of Perak Rainbow Children’s Home, Jennifer, 40, when interviewed by Ipoh Echo.

According to Jennifer, the Perak Rainbow Children’s Home, which is home to 18 female orphans, allocates as much as RM10,000 a month to fund various costs including rent and maintenance.

“The cost of renting a house now is RM3,000 a month. I am grateful to a man with the title Datuk who is willing to help as much as RM1,500 a month for a year, but that will end this month.

“Starting next year I have to pay RM3,000 a month and I can’t afford it considering there are many more costs to be borne such as the salaries of five employees, school expenses and needs, bills, petrol and so on.

“Like it or not, I have to move to a new house at a rental rate below RM2,000 a month,” she told Ipoh Echo.

Jennifer was with the orphans at the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Tiffin Restaurant, organised by Weil Hotel to celebrate with the orphans in conjunction with the coming of Christmas at the end of this month.

The Perak Rainbow Children’s Home, which has been operating for the past two years, is located in Jalan Labrooy, Ipoh. It is inhabited by orphans between the ages of 3 and 18.

According to Jennifer, she would be pleased if there were any departments, agencies and individuals willing to come forward to help ease the burden she is currently facing.

“I really need a new home for these orphans. I need a ‘single bungalow’ house with an area of 5,000 square feet and according to the conditions set by the Welfare Department.

“The location of the house should be around First Garden, Lim Garden, Menglembu and Lahat. I want to be around that area because it will facilitate the movement of orphans to the school that is now there.

Those who want to lighten the burden they are facing can channel help to the Rainbow Children’s Home to Maybank account 50 82 25 51 58 44 or directly to the address 15, Jalan Labrooy, 30100 Ipoh, Perak. For any questions, they can contact Jennifer 017-5611767.
