2 men dead, 1 injured in a two-vehicle crash on the West Coast Highway

Two men died while another was injured when the Toyota Vios they were riding in was involved in a road accident with another vehicle at kilometre 208.6 of the West Coast Highway today.

It is understood that the accident is believed to have occurred when the car in which the three victims were riding turned, but then a Proton Saga type car could not avoid it and hit it from behind.

A spokesman for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak said that they received a call regarding the incident at 7.35am, and members from the Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) went to the location.

“It is believed that the Toyota Vios swerved and the Proton Saga collided from behind causing the Toyota Vios to get stuck on the road divider, in addition, a passenger was thrown into the ditch.

“There were four victims in this two-vehicle accident, the male driver of the Toyota Vios was injured and trapped while two other male passengers died at the scene of the incident.

“The driver of the Proton Saga was safe in the crash,” he said in a statement on Friday.

According to him, the firemen then used special equipment and stretchers to remove the trapped victims, then handed the victims over to the police and ambulance for further action.

The operation led by Senior Fire Officer II, Ellya Syaril Tahrim ended at 8.46am.
