National Sprinter receives education funds to the United States

The Perak Government today presented State Education funds worth RM600,000.00 to the national sprinter, Muhammad Azeem Fahmi (Sports Athlete).

Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the incentive was given as an encouragement to other children to succeed in education and sports.

“Congratulations and well done to Muhammad Azeem who has represented the State of Perak at the Malaysian Sports Games (SUKMA) XX MSN 2022 and represented the country at the 2021 SEA Games and the 2022 World Junior Athletics Championships.

“Recently, he participated in the World Youth Athletics Championships, Under-20 Category in Cali, Colombia and he managed to break a new national record in the 100 metres with a time of 10.09 seconds in the qualifying stage and placed 5th on the whole.

“The success made him the 5th fastest runner in the world under the age of 20. For the 200 metre event, the time recorded was 20.83 seconds and is the best time recorded for the under 20 age category in Malaysia.

“He also obtained 6A results in the last SPM and this athlete with potential is qualified to continue his studies at any local or foreign university.

“On top of that achievement, he has received 3 offers from universities in the United States based in Minnesota, Oregon and Houston,” he said in a media statement today.

Muhammad Azeem has chosen the University of Auburn (UoA), USA. He chose the Exercise Physiology and kinesiology major with a study period of 4 years (January 11, 2023 to December 31, 2026). He will depart on January 1, 2023 at 2.20 am.

The Perak State Government hopes that more athletes like Muhammad Azeem can come along, as he deserves to be crowned as an icon of the youth of the State of Perak because he has managed to balance success in sports and academics well.
