In 2023, the city of Ipoh will be flooded with domestic and international tourists following the launch of the Visit Ipoh Year 2023 (TMI2023) by the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, ahead of the new year last night.
According to Saarani, the launch of TMI2023 is a ‘showcase’ for the Visit Ipoh Year 2024 and the Visit Ipoh Year 2025.
“The city of Ipoh, has received various recognitions at the international level, among which is the city of Ipoh among the three best coffee towns in Asia by the New York Times And Lonely Planet 2019.
“It is also among the 10 best destinations to try local food by booking.com 2018 and voted among the nine best places to visit in Asia by Lonely Planet 2016.
“Recently, the city of Ipoh has been selected as one of the 18 Underrated locations by CNN Travel List. This selection can indirectly promote the city of Ipoh in the eyes of the world and coincides with TMI2023.
“In order to fuel the tourism industry in the state, the state government will continue to help intensify the promotion of existing and new tourism products and destinations in Perak,’ he said in his speech in conjunction with the Starvendors Foodstival X#TravelPeraklah 2022 Programme and the Launching Ceremony of Visit Ipoh Year 2023, at the Stadium Indera Mulia, last night.
Also present was the Chairman of the Tourism, Industry, Investment & Corridor Development Committee of the Perak State Government, YB Loh Sze Yee,Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin and Perak Tourism Chief Executive, Nurmalis Musa.
The bee was chosen as the TMI2023 icon. The selection of Bees is due to the characteristics of the insect which has a colour that matches the state flag of Perak. Bees are also insects that symbolise a harmonious, clean and diligent nature as well as to help each other.
To enliven TMI2023, MBI has organised a total of 22 tourism events throughout the year 2023 with a focus on the 3H tourism segments namely Hipster, Heritage, and Health.
