The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will open a public tender advertisement for the project to build the new Pasir Pinji Market.

The mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said the open tender advertisement is expected to start in January 2024.

“MBI hopes that any contractor interested in the construction of the Pasir Pinji Market project can be prepared to make an application, which is open to the public.

“The old market building will be demolished after the completion of the transfer of traders to the temporary market which is expected to start in mid-2024. The traders will be temporarily housed at the Kilat Field site owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

“This project is expected to be completed within 24 months, which is until the middle of 2026. This market building is a one-storey building with a ‘basement parking’. The number of dealer lots provided is 187,” he said in a statement today.

The statement issued by Rumaizi followed the announcement by the Minister of Local Government Development, YB Nga Kor Ming, who approved an allocation of RM2 million to build the Pasir Pinji Temporary Market and upgrade the Ipoh Big Market.

At the same time, Rumaizi also thanked the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) for allocating RM1 million to upgrade Ipoh Big Market.

“The Ipoh Big Market upgrade project involving renovation work on the wet market floor and related works is expected to start this March after the tender process in February 2023.

“This is good news for traders who have been wanting the Ipoh Market to be repaired and upgraded to ensure their comfort and safety,” he said.
