IpohBug Buzzes Back

By SH Ong

IpohBug has been keeping a low profile for the past two years plus due to the pandemic. However when the restrictions were slightly relaxed their charity and donation drives resumed in full swing.

They started the ball rolling in January 2022 with a visit to the Pusat Jagaan Pertubuhan Kanak-kanak by providing supplies and basic necessities to the unfortunate children.  Volunteers from the club prepared the items in advance and willingly distributed the gifts to the inmates. The staff and volunteers were later in the month treated to a Chinese New Year dinner at Restaurant Public Pusing to welcome the year of the Tiger.

In February, during a hurricane-like storm bringing heavy rain and strong winds, part of the city was devastated. Some of the houses especially in Kampung Tawas areas were heavily damaged. IpohBug, under its coach Eugene Ong, brought along a group of volunteers to help in some of the restoration works.

For the rest of the year IpohBug has been busy, like little bees collecting and distributing nectar and pollen from flower to flower, providing food packets, foodstuff, daily necessities and even diapers to those in need, old folks’ homes, orphanages and homes for the less fortunate. Their activities culminated with a visit to the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Jaz in Teluk Intan in December.

To usher in Christmas 2022 a grand party was organised and co-sponsored by Unk Lau for three children’s homes at the Elim Gospel Hall. Children from Rainbow Children’s Home (Jalan Labroy), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Harapan Baru  (Pasir Pinji) and Precious Gift Orphanage Society (Buntong) were treated to a buffet lunch. Some games and quiz were carried out during the party to bring some Christmas cheer to the children. The festivities ended with the presenting of Christmas gifts and a tee-shirt to each and every one of the children present there and some “ang paus” to the various homes to help them tide over the difficult times. The children in turn sang some Christmas carols with a big thank you to the organisers of this event and wished everyone a Happy New Year.

IpohBug would like to wish all those who are celebrating Chinese New Year a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous Rabbit Year, “GONG XI FA CAI”
