Esplanade Lumut Public Toilet gets recognition

By: Zaki Salleh

Manjung Municipal Council has been recognised internationally when the Esplanade Lumut Public Toilet received The 2nd ASEAN Public Toilet Award 2023-2024.

The award was received at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 which took place at the Marriott Hotel Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Nominations and awards are based on the category of Public Toilets which are located in tourist locations and have ‘wow factor’ characteristics.

This includes recycling elements inside and outside the toilet and having a herb garden as a landscape to beautify the toilet area.

The President (YDP) of the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM), Syamsul Hazeman Md. Salleh said that the success was the result of the cooperation of all the officers involved.

According to him, MPM’s efforts will not stop here and it will continue to commit to improving the standards of other public toilets.

“However, some time and cost are required for the toilets that were previously maintained by the operator.

“We also thank all the residents of Manjung who have always been the backbone of MPM so that they can make this history,” he said.

The victory also repeated the previous success when Esplanade Lumut Public Toilet was crowned as the best public toilet in Malaysia.

The award was received at the 2021 National World Environment Day Celebration organised by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.

The Lumut Public Toilet built in 2001 was upgraded in 2016 while improvements are made from time to time with an emphasis on cheerfulness and cleanliness.

The location of this toilet located in the middle of Lumut town also gives a positive image to Manjung as a popular tourist district in the state of Perak.

There are a total of 20 public toilets under the MPM’s supervision around Lumut and Manjung.

Ipoh Echo applauds MPM and makes the wish for other agencies in Ipoh and Perak to emulate their example.
