Earthquake: Pray for Turkey and Syria

ISTANBUL: Early Monday morning, February 6, 2023, a strong earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale hit the southern region of Turkey Kahramanmaras.

The provinces involved were Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adıyaman, Malatya, Osmaniye, Hatay, and Kilis.

The Turkey Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the earthquake occurred at 4.17 am (0117GMT) local time, centred in Pazarcik District.

However, according to the report of Anadolu Agency, another strong earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred on Monday afternoon.

The earthquake was reported at 1.24 pm (2100 GMT) local time, centred in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at least 912 people had been killed and 5,385 injured in 10 provinces so far.

According to media reports, so far the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that no Malaysians were involved in the disaster.

Meanwhile, through a local media report, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ordered that all citizens pray for prosperity for Turkey and Syria.

His Majesty said, May God facilitate all affairs and rescue operations. Let us pray that all the victims and family members will be given patience.
