IPOH: Strict action will be taken if there are irresponsible parties who take advantage by begging and asking for alms, especially during the month of Ramadan.
The Chairman of the Committee for the Development of Women, Family, Social Welfare, Development of Cooperative Entrepreneurs, Salbiah Mohamed said, there is no denying that there are a few individuals who take advantage of the generosity of the public who like to give to charity.
“Ramadan is a month full of blessings, there are people who take this as an opportunity to gain sympathy.
“When we do good deeds in this month, the reward is multiplied and people will take the opportunity of this month of Ramadan to give to charity.
“We will inform relevant agencies including local authorities (PBT) if there are any complaints about the activity,” he said.
He was met by reporters after a walkabout session at Bulatan Ramadan Bazaar, Amanjaya Meru Raya, here on Wednesday.
He said this when asked by reporters if there are any cases of begging and asking for alms during the month of Ramadan in this state.
In the meantime, Salbiah said that so far his party has not received any complaints regarding the matter, however, he said that monitoring and enforcement activities are carried out from time to time.
“This issue (asking for alms, begging) is not only during the month of Ramadan but before this, we also monitor, especially if it involves children.
Previously, the media reported that the attitude of residents who like to give alms, especially during the month of Ramadan, made some areas in certain states the focus of foreign beggars.
Among the modus operandi used by foreign beggars to gain the sympathy of the public is to wear ragged clothes and bring small children with them.
