Firefighters managed to persuade a man not to commit suicide on a pedestrian bridge

IPOH: Firefighters succeeded in persuading a 33-year-old man who was believed to be suffering from emotional stress, from trying to commit suicide on a pedestrian bridge near a shopping centre late last night.

Assistant Director of the Perak Fire and Rescue Operations Division (JBPM), Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain, said he received a call about the incident at 11.38pm, before members of the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the location.

“Information from the caller said his friend was believed to be suffering from emotional stress and was attempting suicide at the pedestrian bridge location.

“However, the firemen succeeded in persuading the victim from doing so and handed him over to the police for further action,” he said.

The operation led by Senior Fire Officer II Zakir Ramdan Mohamad ended at 12.17 midnight.
