KUALA KANGSAR: Six people were injured in an express bus accident believed to have been due to brake problems at KM 257 PLUS heading south early this morning.

Perak Fire and Rescue Operations (JBPM) Assistant Director Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said the Kuala Kangsar Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received a call informing them about the incident at 2.46am before team members were rushed to the location.

“According to the express bus driver, the bus hit the back of a lorry that was no longer at the scene of the incident.

“Six victims were injured when the collision occurred, but no one was trapped.

“The bus had a brake problem, the driver stopped the bus and had to hit the road divider to avoid the risk of another accident,” he said in a statement this morning.

According to him, the bus was travelling from Penang to KL Sentral and was carrying a total of 26 passengers.

He said their members provided initial treatment to the victims and then took the victims to the hospital using the Emergency Service Assistance Unit (EMRS) machinery and assistance from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) ambulance.

“The case was handled by Operation Commander Saiful Hanif Mahmad Ayub and the entire operation ended at 3.40am,” he said.
