Student believed to have drowned, found floating in the Perak River

TELUK INTAN: A 14-year-old male student who was believed to have drowned after falling into the river yesterday was found floating in the Perak River near Kampung Terengganu Jetty today.

Hilir Perak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said, the body of a male student who went missing in the Perak River last night was found at 4.45 this afternoon by the search and rescue team (SAR).

“The victim’s body was found floating 60 metres from the Jeti where the victim fell into the Perak River.

“The victim’s kin have confirmed the identity after the identification was made by the father himself,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Department of Teluk Intan Hospital at 5 pm this afternoon for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The missing victim has been identified as V Johnson, 14, who is believed to have drowned after villagers found the victim’s bag and clothes near the jetty yesterday evening.

The victim’s father received a phone call from the school teacher saying he received his son’s school bag from a villager who was found on the jetty.
