Family members and firefighters managed to stop an elderly woman from trying to commit suicide

TELUK INTAN: An elderly woman’s attempt to commit suicide was successfully prevented after persuasion by family members and firemen at Batu 12, Jalan Changkat Jong, today.

Assistant Director of the Perak Fire and Rescue Operations Division (JBPM), Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said the 70-year-old woman tried to commit suicide by pointing a knife at her body.

“We received a call regarding the incident at 10.50 this morning, then members from the Teluk Intan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the location.

“Information received from the police informed that the woman tried to commit suicide, however the victim’s family and firefighters at the location managed to stop her,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

He further said that the firemen then persuaded the victim to be taken to Teluk Intan Hospital for follow-up treatment.

The operation led by Senior Fire Officer II Abdul Hazhar Ismail ended at 11.33 am
