Husband and wife arrested, drugs worth RM64,570 confiscated

SITIAWAN: A husband and wife suspected of being involved in drug trafficking activities were arrested in a raid at a house in Sitiawan, Manjung here at midnight yesterday.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said, a raid by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters at about 12.05 midnight yesterday arrested a married couple aged between 28 and 29 years.

“As a result of the inspection carried out in the house, the police found and confiscated drugs believed to be heroin with an estimated weight of 7,042 grams and marijuana with an estimated weight of 3,058 grams.

“The total value of the seized drugs amounted to RM64,570. Also confiscated were the equipment used to package the drugs,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Yusri said that the urine screening test conducted on both suspects was negative for drugs and they also have no previous criminal record.

According to him, action was also taken under the Dangerous Drugs (forfeiture of property) Act 1988, where JSJN Perak Contingent confiscated one vehicle, seven necklaces, six rings, four pairs of earrings and one nose ring estimated at RM 72,332.60.

“The estimated total value of the drug seizure along with the seized property is RM136,332.60,” he said.

He said, based on the dual investigation, the two suspects are believed to have started drug trafficking activities since the beginning of 2023.

“The seized drugs are suspected to be distributed in the local market in the state of Perak.

“Estimate that the amount of drugs seized can be used by 15,600 drug addicts,” he said.
