PANGKOR: Teluk Ketapang Turtle Conservation and Information Center will be gazetted as a location for the restoration and preservation of marine life.

This aims to ensure that no development can be done by any party in the area concerned.

Once it has been gazetted, parties are prohibited from carrying out any construction. This is to ensure that the conservation of these turtles is carried out seriously.

Chairman of the State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said his party will also ensure that the conservation center is included in the must-visit list in conjunction with Perak Visit Year 2024.

“We will ensure that the area is dedicated to turtle breeding .

“We will look at the area and advertise it as a place for the conservation and preservation of the animals,” he said after inaugurating the Turtle Conservation and Information Center in Teluk Ketapang, Pangkor Island.

The construction of a conservation center worth RM150,000 in an area of 7.99 hectares is an initiative of the Fisheries Department in conserving and preserving the marine life from being endangered.

The first Turtle Conservation and Information Center was built in 1989 in Segari, with it serving as a research, hatchery and management center for the marine life as well as a publicity program.

Teluk Ketapang Turtle Conservation Center is the second turtle conservation center opened in the state of Perak.

Hopefully with the existence of this Turtle Conservation and Information Center, it can provide a variety of knowledge and information to the public.

This location can also be one of the main attractions for tourists to vacation on Duty Free Pangkor Island.
