IPOH – The Perak State Public Library Corporation (PPANP) has taken a fresh approach to elevate the artistic works of Perak-born talents, particularly in the field of cinema.

The “Pameran Sutradara Mamat Khalid Dalam Kenangan 2023” (Director Mamat Khalid Memorial Exhibition 2023), which runs from July 26 to August 16, has proven to be a remarkable attraction for visitors.

Rafidah Abdul Aziz, Director of PPANP, stated that this exhibition is the first of its kind and has garnered significant public interest.

“I intend to transform the perception that libraries are merely spaces for reading, studying, and must remain silent and solemn. Instead, libraries should become a hub for communities to access information, knowledge, socialize, find entertainment, communicate, and provide therapeutic spaces,” she emphasized.

“Mamat Khalid’s works have earned him a dedicated following. To honour his contributions to the film industry, we have collaborated with his family to curate this exhibition, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of Mamat Khalid’s creations and thoughts,” she added during her speech at the casual talk program at PPANP.

The casual talk program is one of the highlights of the exhibition, featuring three invited panelists who discuss various topics related to the renowned filmmaker, Mamat Khalid.

Among the esteemed panellists are Mamat Khalid’s son, Khalid Amen Mohamad, Film Critic Hassan Abdul Muthalid, and Actor Nasrizal Nasrizal. Also in attendance was Mamat Khalid’s wife, Hasmah Hassan.

The exhibition showcases a range of materials, including Mamat Khalid’s biography, film props from “Hantu Kak Limah”, awards, clapper boards, and various other memorabilia.

This free exhibition is open from Monday to Friday (9:00 am to 6:00 pm) and Saturday (9:00 am to 5:30 pm).
