A man and a woman were arrested, suspected of abusing a 4-year-old boy

IPOH: A man and woman were arrested after being suspected of abusing a 4-year-old boy in an apartment in the Menglembu area here.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said that at about 4.30pm last Wednesday, the police received information from the public that there was a child living in an apartment house in the Menglembu area who was suspected of being abused by his guardian.

“The police found that the victim in this case was a 4-year-old boy.

“The victim was found by a public witness in a state of hunger and there were injuries all over his body,” he said in a statement here on Thursday.

Yahaya said the case was investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children’s Act 2001.

He said that the police’s follow-up investigation resulted in the arrest of the victim’s caretaker, a man and a woman aged 26 and 23, in an apartment in Taman Menglembu Impiana Adril at about 7 pm Thursday.

“The police also seized the rubber pipe and cane used by the suspect to beat the victim,” he said.

He said the two suspects were remanded for five days from August 3 to 7 for further investigation.

“In addition, the victim is at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment and observation.

“Now, the police are completing the investigation of this case and will refer the investigation paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for proposed charges,” he said.
