MANJUNG: People who have information regarding the incident of four men who perished at Kilometer (KM) 220 of the West Coast Highway (WCE) heading north near here yesterday were asked to pass on information to the police.
According to Manjung District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, those concerned are asked to come forward to assist the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigation Officer, Inspector Lily Suryana Roslaili at 013-6559693.
“On August 7 at around 5.20pm, the police were informed about an accident involving a car that crashed on its own in the area.
“Preliminary investigations found that the accident happened at around 5.15pm where a Proton Saga Iswara car from the TLDM Lumut base went through the northern Sitiawan toll towards Ipoh.
“When it reached KM 220 of the WCE Highway heading north, it is suspected that the driver of the car lost control and crashed into the road barrier and went into the drain on the left shoulder of the road causing the car to be burnt,” he told reporters last night.
As a result of the accident, the 56-year-old driver, the 50-year-old front passenger and two rear passengers aged 45 and 53 died at the scene.
Meanwhile, a 54-year-old passenger was seriously injured and taken to Seri Manjung Hospital for treatment.
He added that the case was investigated in accordance with Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
All of them were contract workers at the Royal Malaysian Navy Base Lumut and were on their way back to Ipoh.
