Police hunting suspect in a bank ATM armed robbery case in Ipoh

IPOH: The Ipoh District Police are hunting the suspect involved in an armed robbery at an ATM in a bank in Ipoh that went viral on social media recently.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said his party detected a video lasting 1 minute and 3 seconds that went viral on social media showing an incident of an ATM customer being robbed at a bank with a weapon.

“For information, the case in the video happened last May 14, at about 5.20pm, in the ATM machine area at a bank in Ipoh.

“The victim in the case is a woman in her 50s who suffered a loss of approximately RM300 after being robbed by the suspect, a man using a knife,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code.

“The police are now trying to trace the suspect involved and it is believed that he can help solve other violent crime cases,” he said.

He said that any information about the case can be shared to the Head of Criminal Investigation Division, Ipoh District Police Headquarters DSP Mohd Zulkefli Mohd Muktar at 012-4336999 or the Ipoh IPD District Control Center at 05-2542222.
