Ipoh, September 22, 2023 – The Fourth Meeting of the First Year of the 15th Perak State Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 25th to September 27th.
This historic session will address several critical agendas, including significant proposed legislation that will bring substantial changes to Perak’s water resource laws.
According to Dato’ Mohammad Zahir Dato’ Abdul Khalid, the Speaker of the Perak State Assembly, the session will follow the traditional format, with a 90-minute oral question session each day over three days.
“In this meeting, the government will introduce only one piece of legislation, namely the Perak Water Resources Bill 2023. This bill will be presented by the Executive Councillor for Infrastructure, Energy, Water, and Public Transport, Dato’ Seri Ir Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin,” explained Dato’ Mohammad Zahir.
He added that 20 Honorable Members of the State Assembly will have the opportunity to debate on this proposed legislation. The debate session is scheduled to take place during the First Meeting on September 25th.
The Perak Water Resources Bill aims to replace the 1920 Water Act (Act 418) and the 2016 Perak Coastal Management Enactment.
These legal changes are expected to bring improvements in water resource management and environmental protection within the state of Perak.
