Driver killed after car crashes into toll divider

MANJUNG: An unidentified victim was killed after the car they were driving crashed into a toll divider and caught fire on the West Coast Expressway (WCE) in Sitiawan late last night.

Assistant Director of Operations for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Perak, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said they received a call about the incident at 11:25 pm before members from the Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene.

He explained that the victim, who was driving a Toyota SE vehicle, was confirmed dead at the scene.

“When our team arrived at the location, they found a Toyota car completely burned, 80 percent destroyed due to crashing into the toll divider.

“There was a victim trapped and deceased in the vehicle; the victim’s identity and gender have not yet been determined,” he said in a statement late last night.

He added that the fire brigade team that arrived at the scene managed to extinguish the fire using a hose reel, and the operation was completed at 12:15 am.

Sabarodzi mentioned that the victim was successfully removed and handed over to the police for further action.
