Ipoh – The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has been honoured as an outstanding local authority (PBT) in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development’s 2022 Environmental Health Campaign.

This recognition comes in light of the successful Dengue Hotspot Eradication Campaign conducted within MBI’s jurisdiction in the RPT Batu 8 Kinta area in July of the previous year.

The Mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, stated that the award was presented by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development during the World Environmental Health Day Celebration at the national level in Putrajaya on Tuesday.

Ahmad Munir Ishak, the City Secretary of Ipoh, accepted the award on behalf of Datuk Rumaizi. The event was also attended by MBI’s Health Director, M. Raman.

Rumaizi emphasized that MBI’s previously implemented campaigns have yielded successful results, leading to such recognition.

“Previously, MBI nominated the RPT Batu 8, Hulu Kinta area for the Dengue Eradication and Hotspot Campaign based on data provided by the Kinta District Health Office.

“RPT Batu 8 was declared a controlled outbreak area and subsequently a hotspot with an end date of June 15, 2022,” he said.

Each year, a significant number of dengue fever cases are reported, and many individuals are hospitalized due to severe dengue fever symptoms.

Some individuals infected with the virus have unfortunately lost their lives. Dengue patients suffer from sudden high fever, body aches, muscle, bone and joint pain, vomiting, headaches, and, in some cases, bleeding.
