KUALA KANGSAR: The ongoing turmoil of war between the Zionist regime of Israel and Palestine, which has claimed thousands of innocent lives to date, deeply saddens all parties involved.
This was the proclamation of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the celebration of his 67th Birthday at Istana Iskandariah, Kuala Kangsar today.
His Majesty stated that the world is currently in agony and may face its demise if the conflict persists, with violence and humanitarian disasters left unchecked.
“The suffering experienced by innocent individuals in the land of Palestine reminds us of the two lines spoken by the Athenian forces to the inhabitants of the island of Melos during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta in 416 BC, ‘The strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must.’
“The people of Melos, who chose to stand their ground and not surrender, were besieged. All the male inhabitants were killed, while women and children were enslaved.
“A self-centered and self-righteous attitude will lead to destruction.
“Hatred and enmity seem to be the preferred choices among those in power, who appear more inclined to compete than cooperate,” His Majesty declared.
Furthermore, His Majesty expressed that the world is currently facing challenges in the supply of services and goods, particularly food items becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, resulting in rising living costs and causing hardship for people worldwide.
“A world afflicted by crises must be healed with the voice of peace. Unity is better than discord, consultation is better than conflict, and forgiveness is better than grudges.
“Realize it! Peace is better than war. Realize it! The roots of humanity can only grow in an atmosphere of friendship and cooperation.
“Realize it! Peace will remain a dream if there is no sense of goodwill in the hearts of individuals,” His Majesty concluded.
